Pallet Word Art - Low Cost Way to Decorate

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Friday, September 23, 2016, In : Decorating

I wanted to share with you our latest wood project. With this project, we went and got a free pallet from Lowes Improvement store. Here is how we created this look:

1) My husband took the pallet apart
2) He used two other pieces of wood on nailed them into the back of the piece running the other direction, creating one solid piece.
3) I painted the front and sides of all the boards a white semi gloss color (something I already had on hand)
4) I then applied a coat of dark colored stain (left over...

Installing A Wood Wall - The Easy Way!

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Saturday, September 17, 2016, In : Decorating

We recently completed our wood wall in our living/dining room and I wanted to share and give you some tips we found along the way.

We looked on line at a lot of tutorial's on wood walls. I was surprised at how many different techniques there are. In the end you need to do what will work best for your budget and skill set. We found the following possibilties:

Wood
Use reclaimed Wood (wood you find from old fences, etc.)
Use pallet wood
Purchase New Wood (this is what we did)

DIY - Paint Stick Trellis

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Sunday, May 3, 2015, In : Decorating

I wanted to share with your our most recent frugal DIY project. We have been working on making some changes in our backyard and some of them were pricey! So when we got done with the "major" things I was really looking to save money. I was shocked at the price of a trellis. The larger ones are over $20! We had recently purchased some 5 gallon containers of concrete covering (that will be another post) and we had lots of the longer paint sticks (made for the 5 gallon containers) that we had ne...

Our Guest Bedroom Redo for Under $175

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Saturday, August 16, 2014, In : Decorating

We decided on a beach theme after looking around on the internet. We already had the mattress and box spring, but did have to buy a bedroom for $30. My husband built the headboard for about $20. We purchased an old end table at Salvation Army for $20, used our existing dresser and just white washed it. We bought some shells from Michael's, even found the star fish that we glued onto the headboard at Salvation Army, and my great friend, Barbara, gave us a bunch of shells for our art projects....

Dresser Turned Entertainment Center

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Friday, July 5, 2013, In : Decorating

I wanted to share with you our latest makeover here at MFM.  I had seen something similar to this on a few decorating blogs but had an entertainment center.  Well, my husband came home with a big smile on his face and a 50 inch television.  No way that was fitting in the cabinet so I finally had an excuse to try turning an old dresser into a entertainment center!

We took out the first row of drawers and my husband bought MDF from Home Depot and created three shelves.  We also removed the back....

Do It Yourself - Family Love Art

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Thursday, June 6, 2013, In : Decorating

It has been super busy around here lately, and I have not had a lot of chances to get crafty.  But finally, a completed project thanks to my husband and daughter.  What do you think of our Family Love sign?  When we first created it, it did not have the pictures, that was my daughter's idea, and I love it!

If you are interested in making one yourself, here is what we did:

We used 1x6's and 1x4's cut down to 40".  Of course you could make this any size you want.  By alternating the size of the b...

Fall Decor that Will Not Break the Bank

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, In : Decorating

I just love to visit home decorating blogs.  The ladies are so creative and their homes look beautiful.  One of the big themes is to change out your mantle or other area in your home for each season.  While I would love to do that, I really do not want to spend a lot of time or money to create something that will be seen for a short amount of time and mainly by us :)

With fall right around the corner (September 22nd), I thought it would be fun to see what I could create on the cheap.  Subway a...

Room Makeover - I Need One, What About You?

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Tuesday, September 4, 2012, In : Decorating

As many of you know, I love decorating.  But just because I love it does not mean that every room in my home is a success.  There are many things I think we would all like to change about our homes, but either lack of inspiration or money keeps us from fulfilling those dreams.

One of my favorite decorating blogs, Vintage Revivals is hosting a Room Make Over Giveaway.  If you have a blog to share your story, or a video camera and can create a video, then you can enter for change to have Mand...

Create A Unique Piece of Art

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Wednesday, July 18, 2012, In : Decorating

I wanted to share a wedding gift that I made for my sister-in-law.  They are getting married today!  Her new last name will be BeVier so my husband helped me create this unique piece of art in Photoshop.  I visited this website where they have a ton of letters and numbers available to choose from. The only thing I did not find on the website was the est. square.  We just googled to find it.  Find the letters and numbers you love and save them to your computer and upload them in Photoshop and ...

Decorating with Succulents

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Wednesday, June 6, 2012, In : Decorating

I shared some of my "finds" last week and one of them was this really neat planter.  It is actually a little greener in person and the succulents match so well!   I went by my local Home Depot today and purchased a few succulents and now it is displayed proudly on my coffee table.  The rocks are aquarium rocks that my husband had purchased at a local pet store a few months ago.  If you would be interested in planting succulents indoors I recommend this website.

How to Make an Old Dresser Look New

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Sunday, May 20, 2012, In : Decorating
We will be hosting a foreign exchange student from France starting in August.  My husband was kind enough to give up his office, also known as the downstairs bedroom, for her.  We have had guests stay in here before, but there was no dresser for long term stays.  I was able to purchase a dresser from my friend Barbara for $40.  Gray and yellow seem to be really popular color pairs right now and I really wanted to try it with something in my home, and the dresser was the perfect thing.

Medicine Cabinet Redo

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Thursday, May 10, 2012, In : Decorating

I have found myself doing a lot of little projects around the house lately.  Seems like I always have to have something to do :)  I had purchased two rolls of Contact paper at my local Dollar Tree store, yes $1 a roll, and had only used one of them.  I got to thinking about what I could use the other one for and then I realized I could "beautify" my medicine cabinets!  One roll covered the inside of two cabinets.  It was also a great excuse to clean them out!

I always see in movies how peopl...

Make Your Drawers Work for You

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Friday, April 20, 2012, In : Decorating
I hope that I am not the only one with a messy kitchen drawer.  You know the one that has all the gadgets that you use twice a year but cannot get rid of?  Well, I had a drawer like that. One where things slid around every time I opened it and one where I could never easily find what I needed.  Well, thanks to my husband that is no more.  There is no before picture.  I had to spare all of you :)  But, here is what he did and an after shot.

Organizing Your Closet

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, In : Decorating

I have not been blessed with a large walk-in closet, but I am able to walk in it so I will not complain.  I am not a clothes hoarder, but I do love the thrill of getting something new.  About 1/3 of my closet is from the thrift store.  (We covered the history of thrift stores for me in a prior post :).

What I am is an organizer.  Love things to be neat and streamlined.  I know there are others of you out there :)  Here are a few of the things I have done in my closet that I have found useful.

I have not been doing many projects around here lately, it has been a really busy time.  Bu,t I just had to try this one.  Brooke from SpruceYourNest had this on her Pinterest board and I just fell in love.  I have a wall that was in need of something, but I did not know what.  I had gone shopping many times looking for just the right thing with no luck.

Make Your Own Chalk Paint

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Sunday, January 15, 2012, In : Decorating

Brooke, from Spruce Your Nest, is back again today to talk all about Chalk Paint.  I admit, I had to look up what it is.  What I found is that it is not chalkboard paint.  It is a paint that is very popular in England.  It is well known because you do not have to sand, prime or do anything else before you paint, and one coat goes a long way.  But, it is (in my opinion) pretty expensive.  So, Brooke is going to show us how to make it ourselves.  Click Here to read all about how she did it.  He...

Simple Christmas

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Thursday, December 15, 2011, In : Decorating

Last night I had a lovely (ha) conversation with my 15 year old daughter about how our house does not look "Christmasy" this year.  We bought an artificial tree for the first time (not her favorite) and I decided to change the color scheme of my decorations and so only bought a few of the new color (teal).  She is not happy with the final results (I did offer to have her finish the decorating - you know nothing happened)  The joys of teenagers :)  Anyway...

Mirror Makeover...From Drab to Fab

Posted by Moms Fun Money on Saturday, November 12, 2011, In : Decorating

Last year I started my master bathroom make over.  I was able to repaint our cabinets, put down tile and the next step was to do something with the large builder mirror we had hanging in there.  I went on line and looked at several different websites that offered molding that you could cut yourself or have ordered to place on your mirrors, but most of them were really expensive.  So, I decided to do it myself (well with the help of my dad and my husband)  I purchased 2 different sizes of MDF ...
