Let me start by saying that when an author can write a book and you do not know when truth ends and fiction begins, that is one good author! When I started Dreams That Never Were, I did not read the blurb on the book. From the title and picture on the cover, I incorrectly assumed this was a book of non fiction. As I started, and started to get enthralled with the main character, Alex Hurley, I started to wonder how the author, Greg Messel, got such personal information. I then took a moment to read the blurb and realized that this was an historical fiction book, one like I had never read before.

We learn all about Alex Hurley, a reporter that was shot alongside Robert Kennedy in 1968. We learn about his life, and his budding romance. I loved learning the real life facts of the shooting, but also enjoyed Alex as a fictional character. It was a quick, easy read and I so enjoyed the combination of a story we all know, mixed with a character that felt so real.

I would recommend this book to everyone, such a good read!

I received a copy of this book to review, but all opinions are 100% mine.
