Leaving Cloud 9 {Review}

October 13, 2018

Leaving Cloud 9 is the story of a man who lived in horrible conditions as a child. We learn what it was like and then take a journey with him as he becomes an adult. We learn about the mental illness he battles and the choices made along the way. What is interesting about this book is that it is not written by him, but rather by his third wife. You see her care and concern for him and it is written very well.

I would recommend this book. I enjoyed the read and will passing it along to a few people who I know have family members in their lives with similar struggles. I am hoping it will remind them that they are not alone.

I received a copy of this book for free to review. All opinions are 100% mine.

What Blooms from Dust {Review}

September 15, 2018
Image result for what blooms from dust

Is it ok to admit that I wanted to read the book just based on the cover? It caught my attention and I wanted to know more. Well, I am so glad I did! This is an amazing story, based in the 1930's in Oklahoma, during the Dust Bowl. It is fiction, but you are drawn into the characters and I caught myself feeling like they were real. From twin brothers, to a little boy named Peter that brings kindness back into the town of Nowhere, OK, the book is filled with characters you want to more about an...

Courage, Dear Heart {Review}

September 3, 2018
Courage, Dear Heart (ebook)

The premise of Courage, Dear Heart Letters to a weary world, is a great one. Each chapter is a letter to a particular segment of the population, those who are fearful, living in chaos, rejected, etc. I enjoyed letter #1, a Note to the Reader, but honestly after that I found myself skimming through each letter. Some parts would capture my attention, I enjoyed learning more about the author, but she relied a lot on quotes from other authors and it just did not hold my attention.

I received a co...

The Faith of Dolly Parton {Review}

August 9, 2018

I have to admit that I do not know a whole lot about Dolly Parton. I am not a country music fan but remember her popularity in the 1980's when I was growing up. I thought it would be fun to read a book that would touch more on the spiritual side.

What you need to know about this book is that the author has never met or interviewed Dolly. This book is filled with stories of Dolly that he has gotten from other sources and he shares them along with his own story. At the end of each chapter he ha...

13 Days in Ferguson {Review}

July 29, 2018
Image result for 13 days in ferguson

In August of 2014 the town of Ferguson, MO was rocked by the shooting of an unarmed black young adult. What followed was 13 days of chaos in that town. 13 Days in Ferguson is the account of that time seen through the eyes of Captain Ronald Johnson.

I did not remember too much about this event, but remember Captain Johnson and the fact that night after night there were issues. Captain Johnson takes us back to those days and he does it with such heart and faith, it is amazing. It is a wonderful...

One Upon a Farm {Review}

July 21, 2018

This is the second book by Rory Feek that I have read in the last few months. What stands out about the way he writes are the length of his chapters, they are normally 3-4 pages each. I enjoy this because it allows him to share many short stories on various topics. It allows us to know more about him and his life and it keeps the book moving at a good pace.

I loved learning more about him, Joey and his 3 daughters. This book, whether you know of him as a country music star or not, draws you i...

When Through Deep Waters (Review)

July 13, 2018

I was intrigued to start reading When Through Deep Waters. The plot looked like a good one, a five year old dies in a pool drowning and we journey with the mother afterwards. I knew it was a Christian book and was curious to see where the author went with it.

I have to say, that unfortunately for me, I did not enjoy the book. It was a little abstract for me. Even after reading it I am not sure if my understanding of the children characters in the book is what the author intended. I will admit...

Becoming the Talbot Sisters {Review}

June 24, 2018

Becoming the Talbot Sisters started out with us getting to know the sisters, connecting after a few years and with the reason being their aunt passed away. The story kept me on my toes with many twists, including one sister caring a child for another one, kidnapping and reconnecting. It was a heartwarming book that I enjoyed, but maybe a little too sappy for some of you!

If you are looking for a good summer read that you can get lost in, I would recommend Becoming the Talbot Sisters.

I receive...

Miracle in Shreveport {Review}

May 28, 2018

I grew up a huge baseball fan. My dad and I would spend many summer days/nights watching the San Diego Padres play.So when I saw Miracle in Shreveport, I was very interested in reading it. I had no idea who the Benham brothers were, but upon receiving the book I found out that they had authored two other books together and were part of a controversy with HGTV a few years ago. After educating myself on them a little more, I started the book.

First off, I love how they go back and forth in writi...

This Life I Live {Review}

May 13, 2018
This Life I Live

Many of you know at least some of the story of Rory & Joey Feek and her battle with cancer. They were country singers and already known for their reality tv show, but it was blogs that Rory wrote as they journeyed that got many more people to know who they were. This Life I Live is rather like an autobiography of Rory's. We learn about his childhood, becoming a young adult and then meeting Joey and their life as a married couple.

The book was a quick read, with lots of short chapters and very...
