The Hidden Side {Review}

May 6, 2018

I have to admit, when I received this book and saw the cover I was concerned that I would not like it. I needed to remember the saying, "Do not judge a book by its cover".

I found The Hidden Side to be a book like none I had ever read. The author, Heidi Chiavaroli, weaves a modern tale of a family affected by the violence of their son participating in a school shooting, and the story of Mercy Howard, a 1700's spy. I know, it might sound like a rather strange combo, but it works, and works well! I was enthralled by both stories and then how they connected at the end was brilliant. I was happy to see that she has another book coming out soon, also with past and modern tales weaved together.

If you are up for trying something different, I highly suggest you give The Hidden Side a shot.

I received this book to review. All opinions are 100% mine.

Can't Nothing Bring Me Down {Review}

I am a fan of true stories so when I came across Can't Bring Me Down, the story of Ida Keeling, a 100 plus year old woman runner, I had to read it! In this book she shares with us growing up in Harlem during the depression. She, along with the co-author, Anita Diggs, do a great job of putting you there.

What I was surprised about was that very little of the book was dedicated to her actual running career. I would love to have heard more of the stories of these races, but it felt like an after ...

I Can Only Imagine {Book Review}

April 6, 2018
I Can Only Imagine: A Memoir

I Can Only Imagine is an amazing song, and I was so excited to hear that a movie had been made depicting the life of Bart Millard, lead singer of MercyMe and the band member who wrote the song. Then when I had the opportunity to read the book, seeing the movie had to wait!  I just finished the book and really enjoyed it. It was not an easy read, because the things Bart had to go through as a child were horrible, but to hear how God played an amazing part in that story and how Bart knows it, i...

The Fallen Star {Review}

March 16, 2018

The Fallen Star was filled with action, adventure and best of all, great writing! Robert H. Wolfe's second book in his series, The Goblin King, introduces some new characters in an exciting story. Wolfe created an interesting world in which Goblins struggle to survive against the advancing human armies. Normally, you'd think being a Goblin is evil, but not in this story! By the end of the book, yo'll be rooting for the little green guys! This story is for every age who wants to escape in a ri...

Breaking Cover {Review}

When I heard about Breaking Cover, I was very intrigued to read it. I have never read a true story about someone who worked for the CIA. The fact that it was a woman, who is a Christian, made me even more curious. I loved the beginning of the book, learning more about Michelle Assad and she ended up working for the CIA.

The story them moves into the years that she and her husband Joseph worked in the Middle East, right in the middle of war. I have to admit that those chapters left me feeling ...

Be the Hands and Feet {Review}

February 7, 2018
Be the Hands and Feet

I have read a few of Nick Vuijicic's books prior to Be the Hands and Feet and have really enjoyed then. I love the idea of helping others and was excited to see a book focused on that topic. I do have to admit that the book started out a little slow for me, but I quickly found the chapters very relevant and moving. He allows others to share in their own words throughout the book, and the impact that has on the stories of these individuals, is amazing.

Throughout the book he shares different wa...

Same Kind of Different As Me {Review}

January 25, 2018

Where has this book been in my life? Until I heard of the movie, I was not aware of this book and I am so sad that I did not know about it sooner. The book was so moving and inspiring. It is written by two people and I loved the back and forth. Some chapters by one, some by the others and how you get to read the same event seen by two different people. They did such a good job of remember their amazing wife and friend and letting us know that there is hope for the homeless, if they really wan...

Praying the Scriptures For Your Adult Children {Review}

Praying the Scriptures for Your Adult Children: Trusting God with the Ones You Love
Being the mom to a 25 and 21 year old, I could not wait to get my hands on this book. I definitely see this book as being one that sits on your shelf and you pull it out when you need it, more of a resource guide. It is not a book to just sit and leisurely read and then get rid of. There were chapters that I skipped, because they did not pertain to my children at the moment, but knowing I have this great resource when I need it, is amazing. I actually put it on my bookshelf at work, since I w...

The Chalk Man {Review}

January 1, 2018

It has been awhile since I have read a really well written suspense novel. The Chalk Man was just that! Set in England in the 1980's, as well as current day, the author, C.J. Tudor does a wonderful job of taking us back to the summer of 1986 and the drama that unfolded, while allowing us to see what is happening present day, without missing a beat!

Each day when I had to put the book down, I could not wait to have time to be able to pick it up again and continue along the journey to find out w...

Faithful Finance {Review}

Image result for faithful finance

I have to admit, when I first picked up this book I thought it was going to be a Dave Ramsey want to be book. Although I have never read a complete Dave Ramsey book, I have visited his website and know what his philosophy is and his steps towards saving money.  So yes, I was skeptical.

But Emily Stroud, got my attention right away! I loved that she lets you know she cares more about you spiritually, but she has been blessed with the ability to assist others with their financial lives and wants...
