Here and Gone {Review}

July 23, 2017

I normally do not read a lot of suspense (thriller) books, but thought I would change things up and choose to review Here and Gone by Haylen Beck. This is the first book I can remember actually be anxious reading! Early on in the book I actually thought about putting it down, afraid of what might come next. I would say that is the sign of a good thriller book!

The story revolves around an abused wife who is escaping her husband with her two children. They get pulled over in the middle of nowhere and the children are taken. The story leads the reader through the ups and downs of the mother, no being believed, and the corrupt police officers at the center of it all.

I highly recommend this book. Kept my own my toes and I could not wait to see how it ended!

I received this book from Blogging for Books to review. All opinion are 100% mine.

An Outlaw and a Lady {Review}

July 13, 2017

I love when I get so enthralled with a book that I do not want to put it down and such was the case with An Outlaw and a Lady: A memoir of music, life with Waylon. Jessi Colter is the wife of Waylon Jennings. I am not a country music fan, but I am a biography fan, and this autobiography is amazing! I loved learning about Jessi, her early years traveling with her mother, her first marriage and then meeting Waylon and the years and trials they had. I enjoyed her sharing lyrics to some of her so...

The Naturalist Theodore Roosevelt Review

June 29, 2017

I was in a history mood when I selected The Naturalist as the next book to read. I knew a little about Theodore Roosevelt, knew he helped start national parks, but this book really digs in his favorite past time, hunting, killing and preserving animals and it started at a young age. I loved learning more about this side of him and his many expeditions, including his well know trip to Africa after his presidency was over.

If you enjoy history, I would recommend this book.

I received a copy of th...

Loveable {review}

June 8, 2017

I have been following Dr. Flanagan's blog for about a year and was pleased to hear that he had written a book and made sure I had time to read it. I loved the concepts in the book - taking the time to really understand yourself, your own worth and I loved the notes to his children that he put in the book. Overall there are some great ideas, but implementing them in your life, I felt, lacked. Now that I know this information, what do I do with it. How do I walk forward with this knowledge. I a...

Disaster Falls - {Review}

April 28, 2017
Disaster Falls: A Family Story

I enjoy true stories, but this was the first time I was venturing into a true story about the death of a child, written by a father. Very heartbreaking story, but many lessons learned from reading the book.

As a reader, I did find it hard to not get a little frustrated at the order in which the book was written. I am one that likes the facts up front and then the details. Mr. Gerson did not give us the details of the accident until after half way through the book, which actually made me put t...

Strengths Based Marriage (Review)

January 28, 2017

I am always looking to learn something different and if it can help my marriage of that of someone I know, I am all in! I was excited to be able to read and review Strengths Based Marriage. The tagline is Build a Stronger Relationship by Understanding Each Other's Gifts.

The book is based on the Clifton Strengthfinder Assessment. I was not aware that this was a test that costs at a minimum $15 (for your top 5 strengths) and $74 for all of them (34). Since I am all about saving money, I will n...

In Such Good Company Review

January 7, 2017

I have loved Carol Burnett for years! I have fond memories of watching re-runs of her show growing up with my grandma. Years ago she wrote a book called Laughing Till It Hurts about her life and I loved it. So, when I heard she had written a new book, In Such Good Company, I knew I had to read it!

The book covers her years putting on The Carol Burnett Show. We get lots of behind the scenes information on the people who helped make the show what it was, the guest stars she had on the show and ...

A Spectacle of Glory Review

January 7, 2017

With the new year, I know many of us are looking for ways to start new, good habits. I was asked to review A Spectacle of Glory. It is a small book with a dated devotional for each day. I have completed one week and find the writing to be very thoughtful and well written. Being a tiny book does put some limits in place and one is that there is space to write the verse(s) they are speaking of, but not room enough to actually quote them. It would be nice to have it all in one place, but without...

Greater Than Gold {Book Review}

November 29, 2016

Still have some Olympic fever going on around our house so I was happy to be able to read Greater Than Gold by David Boudia, Olympic Gold Medalist.

David share a lot about his childhood in the book, the struggles he faced as a teen and young adult, and ultimately find Jesus along the way and how it changed is outlook on life. He candidly shares how his focus in the beginning was on winning and being known by others, but once he accepted Jesus his focus was on Him and how he could use his tale...
